The Tattered Cover

November 11, 2008

When people come to visit Denver, quite often, top of their list of sights to see is the Tattered Cover. It's a community icon for massive amounts of books, AND being one of the largest independent booksellers in the United States. I admit I was nervous when the flagship store closed in Cherry Creek and moved the the Lowenstein Theater on Colfax in 2006, but the new location has flourished. Owner Joyce Meskis also made sure the trademark green carpeting came to the new location, a reassuring touch showing that things would always feel the same at the Tattered Cover.

In 1994, another location in LoDo opened and then in 2004 a third in Highlands Ranch. All three have a multitude of book signings, book readings - and of course - piles and piles and piles of BOOKS.

I loved the Tattered Cover when we lived in Denver. I could get lost in there for hours!

I used to love the TC but ever since I discovered the Bookies, especially for kids' books, it's no contest. It is a mecca for local teachers and they give a discount; 15% if you pay cash or check and I believe 10% if you pay with credit.
