Parenting Books That Saved My You-Know-What

January 08, 2009

Honestly, before we had Declan - I have only babysat ONCE in my life. So, clearly I needed a lot of help when I became a parent. While I was pregnant, I did a lot of reading. A lot A LOT. Here are some books that I found to be really valuable and learned a ton from. Of course, I also learned that no book is the end-all be-all. We took pieces and parts of books that worked for us, and discarded the rest. Still - so incredibly helpful.

One of my favorite books was "The Toddler Owner's Manual: Operating Instructions, Troubleshooting Tips, and Advice on System Maintenance" There is a baby version too, but I happened upon it when my little one was past baby stage and full on toddling. I bet having the baby version would have helped tremendously. Like you, I had never been around babies or even young children so I had no clue. The book is just a FUN, lighthearted take on operating your new baby/toy/machine. It gets you giggling and learning all at the same time and helps make the frightening new experience of parenthood do-able
